What Does Luke 21:22 Mean?
Jesus names the coming siege days of vengeance, the carrying out of justice long warned of, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. The prophets had pleaded with Jerusalem for centuries, and Jesus himself had lamented that the city did not know the things belonging to its peace (Luke 19:42).
Scripture's warnings are as sure as its promises. God is patient beyond all human patience, but his word does not return void, whether it speaks comfort or judgment. The verse calls the reader to take the written word seriously on both counts: to tremble where it warns and to rest where it promises, knowing that all of it, in God's time, is fulfilled.
