What Does Luke 22:29 Mean?
To men arguing over rank, Jesus gives more than any of them dared claim: a kingdom. The verb is covenantal - he bestows it as the Father bestowed kingship on him. The gift flows down a living chain: from the Father, to the Son, to those who continued with him.
This is the answer to ambition: not the crushing of the desire for glory but its purification and fulfillment in God's gift. What rivalry grasps at, grace bestows.
