What Does Luke 22:5 Mean?
What the chief priests could not engineer themselves walked through their door. Luke notes their gladness - relief that the problem of seizing Jesus without a riot now had a solution - and their bargain: money for a man. Matthew records the price as thirty pieces of silver (Matthew 26:15), the sum the law set for a slave (Exodus 21:32).
