What Does Luke 24:36 Mean?
While they are still telling it, the One they speak of stands in the midst of them. To a room of people who fled, denied, and doubted, the risen Lord gives his first word: Peace be unto you.
Not a reproach — peace. The greeting carries the fullness of shalom, wholeness and well-being, and from his lips it is not a wish but a gift; his cross has made the peace he now pronounces (Colossians 1:20). When Christ stands among his failed friends, he comes with pardon in his mouth. It is still his first word to all who gather in his name.
