What Does Luke 3:38 Mean?
Luke carries the line all the way back, past Abraham, to the first man. Adam closes the record with a title no one after him bears in quite the same way: the son of God, for he had no human father; he came from God's own creating hand.
Luke alone traces the family of Jesus to Adam, and the reach of it preaches. Jesus belongs not to one nation's story but to the whole human family, and Paul will call him the last Adam, head of a new humanity. A line that began with a son of God in Eden ends at the Jordan, where the voice from heaven says of Jesus, Thou art my beloved Son.
