Luke 7:35 Meaning and Explanation

Jesus closes the parable with a proverb: wisdom is justified — shown to be right — by all her children. Whatever the critics said of John or of Jesus, God's wise way proved itself in those who received it: repentant publicans, forgiven sinners, lives visibly remade.

Verdicts on God's work are not finally rendered in the marketplace of opinion but in the harvest of changed lives. The children of wisdom — all who welcomed John's call and Jesus' grace — became wisdom's living evidence, as the woman in the next scene will be. Time tells; fruit testifies. Those who answer God's invitations become, themselves, the proof that His way was right all along.
