What Does Luke 8:14 Mean?
The third soil is explained. These hear the word and go forth into daily life, and there the slow strangling happens: cares, riches, and the pleasures of this life grow up around the word and choke it, so that the grain never ripens.
This is the quietest failure in the parable. No devil swoops, no scorching trial strikes; the heart is simply crowded. The plant does not die, and that is the sorrow of it: it lives on, green and fruitless, always almost ready. Christ does not ask for a life without cares, but for a heart where He is not crowded out. The thorns are cleared one honest choice at a time.
