At the sight of Jesus the man cries out and falls down before Him, and the voice that speaks is not his own: what have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not.
The powers of darkness know exactly who He is, and they tremble. Recognition is not love; the spirits name Him truly and dread Him thoroughly. Their terror is itself testimony that His authority runs over the unseen world. And notice where the man ends up, even in his bondage: at the feet of Jesus, the one place where torment begins to lose.
