Hidden in that crowd is another story. A woman has suffered an issue of blood for twelve years, the whole lifetime of the dying girl. She has spent all her living on physicians, and none could heal her.
Her bleeding meant more than illness; it kept her ceremonially unclean, cut off from the sanctuary and from ordinary touch. Twelve years of that is a long exile. Luke, himself a physician, concedes the limit of the art: no one could heal her. She has outspent her money and nearly her hope, and the Healer is passing within reach of her arm.
