What Does Luke 9:35 Mean?

Out of the cloud comes a voice, the Father speaking over Jesus as at his baptism: This is my beloved Son: hear him. Peter had proposed three tabernacles for three great figures; heaven answers with one sentence about one Person. Moses and Elijah are honored servants; this is the Son.

Hear him gathers everything into two words. The law and the prophets have spoken truly, and now they bow to the One they served; every earlier voice finds its fulfillment in his. The command still stands over every page of Scripture and every day of discipleship: hear him, above the noise of the world, above even our own religious plans, the beloved Son who speaks the words of the Father.

Luke 9:35 in the Original Language

agapetos (ἀγαπητός), 'beloved' -- dearly loved, treasured.
