What Does Mark 1:25 Mean?
Jesus answers with two curt commands: be silent, and come out of him. There is no ritual, no struggle, no formula, only a word from the same voice that had been teaching moments before. He also refuses the spirit's testimony; he will not be announced to Israel by such a herald.
The Holy One does not negotiate with evil, and he does not need its endorsement. He will be made known by his own words and works, in his own time, supremely at the cross, not by the shrieking of demons. For the bound man, the abruptness is mercy: one sentence ends a long captivity. The voice that silenced that spirit still speaks peace into tormented lives today.
