What Does Mark 10:3 Mean?
Rather than stepping into the trap, Jesus sends his questioners back to the source they claim to honor. They came citing law; he asks them to state the law themselves, and to do it aloud before the listening crowd.
Jesus treats Scripture as the ground where the matter must be settled, and his question does quiet work: how a person reads Moses reveals what that person is seeking. He still meets our loaded questions this way, turning us back to what God has actually said.
