What Does Mark 10:44 Mean?
Jesus presses the saying a step further: not merely great but chiefest, first of all; and not merely minister but servant, the word for a bondservant, one wholly at the disposal of others. The higher the aspiration, the lower the posture.
Servant of all leaves no exceptions: not of the deserving only, not of friends only, but of all. He is describing the life he himself is living, as the next verse declares. To belong to everyone in love is the kingdom's strange and beautiful crown.
