Mark 13:23 Meaning and Explanation

Jesus seals this part of the discourse with its keynote — 'take ye heed' — and a reminder of what he has just done: 'I have foretold you all things.' Forewarned, the disciples will meet deception and disaster as men who were told, not as men taken by surprise.

The purpose of prophecy surfaces here. Jesus has given no dates and satisfied little curiosity, yet he says they now have 'all things' — everything needed, if not everything wondered about. God's word equips rather than entertains. When events later unfolded, the disciples could remember that their Lord had seen it all in advance, and the memory itself would steady them: the One who foretold the trouble had also promised the salvation, and both words were equally sure.
