What Does Mark 14:26 Mean?
Passover closed with singing. The hymn came from the psalms sung at the feast — songs such as, The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner, and, Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints (Psalm 118:22; 116:15).
So Jesus walks toward Gethsemane singing. With betrayal at hand and the cross before him, his last act in the upper room is praise — and the psalms he sang tell his own story: the rejected stone, the costly death of the faithful, vows kept before God. Worship on the way into darkness: this too he leaves his followers as a pattern.
