What Does Mark 16:13 Mean?
'The residue' is the remaining company of disciples gathered in Jerusalem. Now a second, independent testimony arrives — two witnesses this time, the full measure the law required to establish a matter (Deuteronomy 19:15) — and still the company cannot bring themselves to believe.
The pattern repeats on purpose: witness, disbelief, further witness. The resurrection did not win acceptance by rumor or wishful thinking; it advanced testimony by testimony against entrenched sorrow, until denial had nowhere left to stand. God is patient with hearts that need more than one telling. If faith has come slowly to you, you stand in the company of the first disciples — and the risen Christ came for them anyway.
