After His resurrection, Jesus appears to His disciples and commissions them to take the gospel beyond themselves, sending them to proclaim the good news throughout the whole world.
What Does Mark 16:15 Mean?
Mark 16:15 is the risen Jesus' commission to His followers -- to go everywhere and proclaim the gospel to everyone. He gives this charge after appearing to His disciples following His resurrection.
The command begins with movement: "Go ye into all the world." The good news is not meant to stay in one place or among one people; it is to travel outward to the ends of the earth. The disciples are sent. Their task is to "preach the gospel," to proclaim the good news of what God has done in Jesus -- His life, death, and resurrection. The scope is breathtaking: "to every creature." No nation, no group, no individual lies outside the reach of this message. The same gospel that the disciples received they are now to carry to all. This verse sets the missionary heart of the church in motion, turning those who had been gathered around Jesus into messengers sent out for Him. It reveals that the good news is, by its very nature, meant to be shared. What God offers in Christ is not a private possession to be guarded but a treasure to be announced freely to all. The risen Lord still sends His people with this same word.
In the Original Language
The Greek "kerysso" (preach) means to proclaim or herald aloud. "Ktisis" (creature) refers to created beings, here every person.
