What Does Mark 2:27 Mean?
Now Jesus states the principle behind his answer: the Sabbath was made for the good of man, not man created to serve the Sabbath. The day of rest is a gift God gave for human flourishing—for renewal, worship, and relief—never a burden under which people must be crushed.
In one sentence Jesus restores the Sabbath to its purpose. God instituted the day out of love, to bless and refresh his people, and any use of it that wounds rather than heals has lost its way.
