What Does Matthew 14:23 Mean?
At last Jesus finds the solitude He had sought all day. With the crowds gone, He climbs the mountain by Himself to pray, and remains there alone as evening deepens. The day of public labor closes in private communion with the Father.
Even the Son, full of power, withdrew to pray. His strength to serve the multitudes flowed from time spent alone with God, and He guarded that time even at day's end. If the Lord Himself sought the mountain, how much more do we need such hours apart. The busiest life is sustained, not by ceaseless doing, but by quiet returning to the Father.
