What Does Matthew 22:31 Mean?
Having corrected their picture of resurrection life, Jesus now proves the resurrection itself -- and from the books of Moses, the very Scriptures the Sadducees most honored. He introduces the quotation with an edge: "have ye not read?"
Notice how Jesus describes Scripture: "spoken unto you by God." What Moses recorded at the burning bush centuries earlier is God's living address to the men standing before Jesus that day.
