What Does Matthew 22:46 Mean?

The day of traps ends in silence. The men who came to entangle Jesus in His talk (verse 15) cannot answer one question about the Christ, and from that day no one dares to question Him again.

The silence is double-edged. His wisdom is unanswerable -- but unanswered too is His invitation, for the next chapter opens with sorrow over hardened hearts. The questions asked to corner Jesus have run out; the question He asked still stands over every reader: What think ye of Christ? Blessed is the one whose silence before Him turns at last to confession -- "My Lord and my God" (John 20:28).
