What Does Matthew 26:15 Mean?
Judas opens with a merchant's question: what will ye give me? The priests fix on thirty pieces of silver -- in the law of Moses, the compensation paid for a slave gored by an ox, and in Zechariah 11 the insulting wage weighed out for the rejected shepherd.
The Lord of glory is appraised at the price of a slave. Every detail lands inside prophecy, yet the bargain is wholly the doing of Judas. His question -- what will ye give me -- is the inversion of the gospel, in which God asks for our trust and gives His Son.
