What Does Matthew 8:25 Mean?
Overwhelmed by the storm, the disciples come to Jesus and wake Him. Their cry is short and desperate: 'Lord, save us: we perish.' They are certain they are about to drown, and in their fear they turn to the only One they think can help.
For all their alarm, they do the right thing. They bring their terror to Jesus. Their prayer is brief, urgent, and honest, the prayer of people at the end of themselves. It is a cry that has risen from countless hearts since: when all seems lost, 'Lord, save us.' However small their faith in this moment, it carries them to the right place, to the feet of the One who alone can still the sea and rescue the perishing.
