What Does Matthew 9:31 Mean?
Unable to contain the joy of newly given sight, the two men disregard the charge to silence and instead spread Jesus' fame across the whole surrounding country. Their gratitude simply overflows the command to keep quiet; what has been done for them seems far too great to hide from anyone they meet.
Their disobedience here is the overflow of profoundly thankful hearts, and yet it also shows how the crowds' hunger for wonders kept running ahead of true understanding of who Jesus was.
