What Does Micah 1:12 Mean?
The people of Maroth, a name suggesting bitterness, waited and hoped for relief, but trouble came instead, reaching even the gate of Jerusalem. The longing for good went unmet because the deeper problem had not been addressed.
Hope alone, without repentance, cannot turn aside what sin sets in motion. Yet the verse quietly insists this calamity 'came down from the LORD' rather than from blind fate, which means it is still in His hands. What He sends in discipline He can also lift, when His people return to Him.
