Revelation 1:19 Meaning and Explanation

Having comforted John, the Lord renews the command to write, now giving it a clear shape. John is to record three things: what he has seen, what is, and what shall be hereafter. This threefold charge orders the whole book that follows.

The vision John has just received, the present condition of the churches addressed in the next chapters, and the things still to come all belong to one unfolding word from the same Lord. The command underlines that this revelation is meant to be preserved and shared, not kept for John alone. The living Christ who holds the keys of death also directs the hand that writes, so that His people across the ages may read and be ready for what He will do.
