What Does Revelation 12:5 Mean?
At the heart of the vision the child is born. He is a son appointed to shepherd all nations with a rod of iron, and before the dragon can seize him he is caught up to God and to the very throne of heaven. The enemy's open mouth closes on nothing.
The words gather up the whole gospel in a single breath. The promise to rule the nations is the promise made to the Messiah, and the catching up to the throne is the triumph of His ascension. The child the dragon meant to destroy is enthroned at God's right hand. What looked like the most vulnerable moment becomes the moment of victory, and the safety of the Son is the firstfruits of safety for all who are His.
