What Does Revelation 3:14 Mean?
This last of the seven letters opens with titles of striking weight. The Amen names Christ as the one in whom all God's promises find their sure yes. As the faithful and true witness, He testifies without error; as the beginning of the creation of God, He stands at the source and head of all that is made.
These titles set the stage for a hard message by anchoring it in who Christ is. Before Laodicea hears its rebuke, it is reminded that the speaker is utterly trustworthy and supreme. The Amen does not flatter; He tells the truth in love. That the words come from such a witness means they can be received with confidence, however searching they prove to be.
