What Does Revelation 3:12 Mean?
This is the great promise that closes the body of the Philadelphia letter. In a city shaken by earthquakes, where people often fled their homes, the image of an immovable pillar that goes out no more would have stirred deep longing. The new Jerusalem comes down from God, the dwelling of His people.
To be made a pillar is to be given a fixed and honored place in God's presence forever, never again displaced. To bear His name, the city's name, and Christ's new name is to belong wholly and openly to God. Inscription means ownership and identity; the faithful will be unmistakably His.
