What Does Revelation 4:10 Mean?
Moved by the creatures' song, the twenty-four elders fall down before the One on the throne and worship Him who lives for ever and ever. Then they take the golden crowns from their own heads and cast them before the throne, laying their honor at His feet as they begin to speak.
The crowns they were given in honor they freely give back to God. Whatever dignity the redeemed possess, they know its true owner and return it in worship. To cast down a crown is to confess that every reward and every glory came from Him and belongs to Him. Here is the posture the vision commends: not clinging to what we have been given, but laying it gladly before the throne of the One who gave it.
