Romans 14:12 Meaning and Explanation

Paul draws the conclusion from the certainty of judgment: every single one of us will give account. The phrase 'of himself' is pointed -- the reckoning each faces is for his own life, not his neighbor's.

This quietly removes the ground from under our judging. If I must answer to God for myself, my attention belongs on my own walk, not on auditing my brother's. The weight of personal accountability is meant to turn the gaze inward and upward rather than sideways and down. Before God, no one will stand to be cross-examined about someone else's diet or days; each gives account of himself, and that is responsibility enough.
