What Does Romans 9:24 Mean?
Paul now names the vessels of mercy: us, whom God has called. And he widens the circle deliberately. The called are drawn not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles, the nations long outside the covenant. The mercy traced through the whole chapter reaches across every former boundary, gathering a people from far and near into one calling.
This is the destination toward which Paul has been driving. God's purpose was never to bless one bloodline and shut out the rest, but to call a people from all peoples. The gospel opens the household of God to anyone, near or far, who hears His call.
