What Does Titus 3:6 Mean?
Paul continues from the renewing of the Holy Spirit, describing how generously that Spirit was given. God poured Him out on us abundantly, lavishly, not in a trickle but a flood, and He did so through Jesus Christ our Saviour. The Spirit's coming is tied directly to the work of Christ.
The picture is one of overflowing generosity. God does not give His Spirit grudgingly but richly, and the channel of this gift is Jesus. Through Christ's saving work, the renewing life of the Spirit is poured into believers without stint. For the reader, this is cause for wonder and thanksgiving. The God who saved us by mercy did not stop there but flooded us with His own Spirit. Whatever our sense of poverty, the gift we have received in Christ is abundant, and the Spirit He pours out is more than sufficient for the life He calls us to live.
