What Does Zechariah 2:12 Mean?
Using the language of inheritance, God claims Judah as his portion, the allotment that belongs to Him in the holy land, and declares He will choose Jerusalem again. To a people who feared they had been cast off in exile, this is a word of renewed belonging.
Ordinarily a land is the people's inheritance; here the people are God's inheritance, the treasured portion He claims for Himself. And the city once rejected for its sin is chosen anew. The God of second choosings does not write off what He once loved. His love returns to gather, to claim, and to restore those who thought themselves forgotten.
