What Does Zechariah 2:7 Mean?
Zion is a name for God's people gathered around His city. Many of them were still dwelling with the daughter of Babylon, settled in the land of their exile. The Lord urges them to escape, to not grow so at home in captivity that they forget the call to return.
Comfort can be its own captivity. The exiles had built houses and businesses in Babylon, and leaving meant risk. Yet God lovingly presses them to choose freedom over ease. The summons to deliver thyself is the voice of a God who wants His people near Him, not lingering where their hearts will slowly turn away. The pull toward home is finally a pull toward the Lord.
