The interpreting angel returns and rouses the prophet, as though waking him from sleep, to receive a fresh vision.

What Does Zechariah 4:1 Mean?

This opens the fifth of Zechariah's night visions, given to encourage the people rebuilding the temple after their return from exile. The same angel who had guided earlier scenes comes again, stirring the prophet from a daze so heavy it is likened to sleep.

Revelation can leave a person spent, and yet God does not leave him there. The gentle waking shows a Lord who meets the weary, restores their attention, and prepares them to see more than they could grasp on their own. What follows will be a word of comfort for hands grown tired in holy work.
