1 John 2:27

1 John 2:27

But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

The anointing believers received abides in them and teaches them the truth, so they remain in Christ.

What Does 1 John 2:27 Mean?

John returns to the anointing his readers received from Christ. It abides in them and teaches them, so that they are not dependent on deceivers. This anointing is true and no lie, and as it has taught them, they will abide in Him.

The Spirit given to believers is an inner teacher, confirming the truth and guarding against error. This does not set aside faithful teaching but means believers are not at the mercy of false teachers, for they have been taught by God. John assures them that the same anointing which led them to the truth will keep them in Christ, abiding to the end.
