What Does 1 John 2:6 Mean?
John draws the practical conclusion. The one who says he abides in Christ ought to walk as Christ walked. To remain in Him carries an obligation to follow His way of life.
Jesus is not only our Savior but our pattern. His life of love, humility, and obedience marks the path for all who claim His name. This is no impossible burden imposed from outside; it is the natural shape of a life joined to Him. To abide in Christ is to be drawn, step by step, into His likeness, until His manner of living becomes our own.
In the Original Language
meno (μένω), 'to abide' -- to remain and dwell, a key word in this letter for staying joined to Christ.
