What Does 1 Peter 1:5 Mean?
If the inheritance is guarded in heaven, the heirs are guarded on earth. Peter uses a military word: God's power stands sentry over those who trust him, holding them until the day of unveiling.
Faith is not the strength that keeps the believer; God's power is. Faith is simply the hand that holds to him. The salvation already secured will one day be fully shown, and until then the weakest believer is kept by a strength that never sleeps.
In the Original Language
phroureo (φρουρέω), 'kept' -- to guard as a garrison guards a city, standing watch over what is inside.
