What Does 1 Peter 2:22 Mean?

Peter describes the One they follow with two simple denials: he did no sin, and no guile was in his mouth. He echoes Isaiah's portrait of the suffering servant.

The innocence is total, reaching even to his words. When Jesus suffered, he suffered as the only truly blameless one, with nothing in himself that deserved it. This is what makes his patience under wrong so pure and so powerful. Peter holds up a Christ whose suffering was wholly undeserved, so that his readers, who suffer with many faults, might still find in him both their pattern and their hope.
