Peter commits to keep reminding his readers of these truths, even though they already know and are grounded in them.

What Does 2 Peter 1:12 Mean?

Peter shifts from exhortation to explanation of his purpose in writing. He pledges not to be "negligent" — the opposite of the diligence he keeps urging — but to remind them "always" of these things. He grants that they already know the truth and are "established" in it, firmly settled in "the present truth" they have received.

Maturity does not outgrow the need for reminders. Even believers who are well-grounded need the core truths pressed on them again and again, because we forget (verse 9) and drift. Peter sees reminding as a sacred duty, not a tedious repetition. The most important truths are not the ones we hear once and master, but the ones we return to for a lifetime. A faithful teacher, like a faithful believer, keeps circling back to what matters most. There is humility here too: Peter does not assume his readers are beyond the basics.
