To the believers being afflicted, God will give rest along with Paul when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His powerful angels.

What Does 2 Thessalonians 1:7 Mean?

Having spoken of justice for the persecutors, Paul now turns to the brighter half of the promise: rest for the persecuted. The same righteous God who repays affliction will also relieve the afflicted. Paul includes himself and his coworkers in this hope, for they too suffer; the relief he describes is shared by all who belong to Christ.

The timing is fixed at the moment "when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels." The rest is not merely a private comfort now but the great public unveiling of Christ in glory. The word "revealed" pictures a curtain drawn back, showing the Lord who is presently hidden from sight. For weary, harassed believers, the message is that their relief is bound up with His appearing, certain to come at His own appointed hour.

In the Original Language

apokalupsis (ἀποκάλυψις), the verb behind "revealed" — an unveiling or uncovering, a drawing back of what hides something from view.
