What God planned in eternity has now appeared in Christ, who broke the power of death and brought life and immortality into the light.

What Does 2 Timothy 1:10 Mean?

The eternal purpose hidden in past ages has now stepped into history through the appearing of Jesus Christ. By His coming, death has been robbed of its grip, and life and immortality have been brought out of shadow into full light.

This is the heart of the good news. The fear that haunts every human life, the dread of death, has met its conqueror. Christ did not merely teach about life beyond the grave; He defeated death itself and shone immortality into view through the gospel. What was once dim is now luminous. For the reader standing under any shadow of mortality, this verse turns the gaze toward the risen Savior, in whom death is undone and unending life is offered freely and openly to all.

In the Original Language

katargeo (καταργέω), 'abolished' -- to render powerless and put out of action; death is stripped of its authority, not merely postponed.
