What Does 2 Timothy 2:11 Mean?
Paul cites what was likely a treasured saying among early believers, perhaps from a hymn or confession. Its opening line declares that dying with Christ leads to living with Him.
To die with Christ is to be joined to His death, surrendering the old self and sharing in His sufferings. The promise that follows is sure: those who die with Him will also live with Him. Death is not the end of the story for those united to Jesus; it is the doorway to shared life. For the reader, this is profound comfort. Every loss endured for Christ, even death itself, is bound to His resurrection life. The pattern of the gospel is death then life, and those who walk it with the Lord are promised they will rise to live with Him forever.
