In Christ believers are made complete, for he is head over every ruler and authority.

What Does Colossians 2:10 Mean?

Paul draws the immediate conclusion from verse 9. Because all the fullness of God dwells in Christ, those who are in him are complete -- lacking nothing essential, fully supplied in the One who is full.

The point is pastoral: the Colossians need not seek completeness through extra rituals, secret knowledge, or the appeasing of unseen powers. They are already complete in him. And Christ is head of all principality and power -- supreme over every spiritual authority they might fear or court. The very forces the false teachers urged them to honor are under Christ's headship. So there is nowhere higher to go and no power above the One they already have. To be joined to Christ is to share in his fullness and to stand under the protection of his supreme authority. Nothing remains to be added; he is enough.
