What Does Colossians 3:24 Mean?
Paul gives a great encouragement, especially to servants whose earthly labor might go unrewarded. Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance -- their faithful work will not be overlooked, for God himself repays it.
Strikingly, servants who owned little are promised an inheritance, a share in the riches of God's family. And the verse names their true Master plainly: for ye serve the Lord Christ. Whatever human master they answer to, they are finally servants of Christ, who sees and rewards. Paul thus fills the humblest service with hope. For the Colossians, no faithful labor is wasted; the Lord keeps account and grants an inheritance no earthly master could give. To serve Christ is to serve the One who will surely reward, turning present toil into the path toward a glorious recompense.
