They have died, and their life is now hidden with Christ in God.

What Does Colossians 3:3 Mean?

Paul states the reason behind the call to seek and think on things above. For ye are dead -- the old self has died with Christ, a death already accomplished, so the old life no longer defines them.

And your life is hid with Christ in God: their true life is now safely concealed, kept secure in Christ, who is himself in God. This hiddenness is not loss but protection -- the believer's real identity and future are stored where no enemy can reach, bound up with the Lord himself. The world may not see this life clearly now, but it is utterly safe. For the Colossians, the comfort is immense: their security does not depend on their own grip but on being hidden in Christ, in God. What is hidden there cannot be lost, and one day, as the next verse promises, it will be revealed.
