What Does Colossians 3:4 Mean?
Paul completes the thought of the hidden life with a promise of its unveiling. Christ, who is our life -- Paul does not say Christ gives life merely, but is their very life -- will one day shall appear, made openly manifest.
And when he does, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. The life now hidden in God will be revealed in splendor when Christ returns. What is concealed today will be displayed then, and the believer will share in Christ's own glory. This is the hope that anchors all the holy living Paul is about to describe. The Colossians' present obscurity, even their suffering, is not the final word; their destiny is bound to Christ's appearing. Because he is their life, his glory will be theirs. Such a future reshapes the present, giving every faithful struggle a sure and glorious end.
