What Does Habakkuk 3:19 Mean?
The book closes on a note of soaring confidence. "The LORD God is my strength." God will make the prophet's feet like a deer's — sure and swift on dangerous heights — enabling him to walk upon the high places without stumbling. From the depths of complaint, Habakkuk now stands on the heights, steadied by God's power. The closing line dedicates this prayer to be sung with stringed instruments, sealing the whole as an act of worship.
The journey is complete. The prophet who cried "how long?" now finds his strength in God and treads the heights with the surefootedness of a deer. He has not been given all his answers, but he has been given God — and that is more than enough. This is the destination of faith for every believer: to move from honest struggle, through trust in God's faithfulness, to a strength and joy in the Lord that lets us walk steadily on even the highest, hardest ground.
