What Does Jude 1:6 Mean?
Jude points to angels who did not keep their first estate, their assigned position, but left their own habitation. Departing from the place and role God gave them, they fell under judgment. Jude says they are now reserved in everlasting chains under darkness, awaiting the great day when God judges all things. He states the fact plainly without filling in every detail.
The warning is pointed. If even heavenly beings who forsook their God-given place came under judgment, no creature can presume on privilege while abandoning the truth. The intruders in the church think their status protects them; Jude shows otherwise. Yet the same God who judges the rebellious is the one who keeps his faithful people, holding them as surely as he holds the unfaithful for justice. Where we stand before him is never a small thing.
